About Us

Our History

A journey of a thousand miles indeed starts with the first step, this saying is very true in the case of NBC-Kibera Mission Church. It all started as a bible study first for the NBC run Chemi Chemi ya Uzima clinic staff in 2003, then spread to the patients. Within a period of ten years, the bible study, meeting every Thursday, had grown to about forty people many of whom had received Christ and were growing through the bible study.

In March 2013, the bible study began having Sunday services, a congregation that has continued to grow both spiritually and numerically. Children service has grown to over 300 children, family service has a congregation of about 200 people and youth service 60 when schools are in session but 120 during school holidays.

Ministries have also been established that have provided forums for fellowship, growth and capacity building. There are also many more small groups among adults and youth meeting weekly.

When Jesus taught people about the kingdom he also reached out to the hungry and gave them food, healed the sick thus holistic in approach. We at NBC understand our context; people struggle with putting food on their tables, paying house rent, paying school fees and the list goes on. It is next to impossible for any single church to try to address all these needs. However, through entrepreneurship program, we not only providing fish to the people but teaching them on how to fish for themselves. There are several groups that meet to save and borrow money from within. They are having money in surplus, they can no longer borrow all their monies. Our prayer is that every single member of our church will be part of this initiative. Our church, by God’s grace, is playing a pivotal role in fostering unity of Kibera community. We have partnered with various churches within the community and government administration in various initiatives, we give glory to God for the favor and influence He has given the church.
